Tools Overview

The Swiss Army Knife

Putting Linux on your handheld device can either be as simple as copying files to your device or it can be an exhausting learning experience. For the latter you will need a lot of tools at your disposal. Of all the sections on this website, this is the most important section to understand and read. Doing so will provide you with the knowledge you need to easily perform each step of the process.

Learning how these tools work can be as difficult as the entire process of putting Linux on your handheld. There will be tools for building your kernel, tools for downloading source code, tools for building your distribution, and tools for running your kernel.

I have taken the time to include the most relevant parts and processes of these tools in this section. Please look at the references section and the links within each page for more detailed information.

What you will find here

On the pages listed on the side you will find information on the different tools available to help you in putting Linux on your handheld. Within each section you will find short listings of important information that will answer the following questions:

  • What is it?
  • Where do I get it?
  • How do I install it?
  • How do I use it?

The information provided is not exhaustive. You are encouraged to check out the references section for more information.
